Oh The Weather Outside Is Frightful

...but the Netflix is so delightful.  So since there's no place to go, let us view, let us view, let us view!

How is everyone's pre-holiday week going?!

If you answered, "Awesome!" or "I'm all finished my shopping!"  My answer to you is...

I'm over here like...

source

I have a few last minute gifts to pick up, I have to bake brownies and cookies, get a Christmas outfit...Okay, pass the chocolate martini now!

Well, not only has the week been crazy schedule-wise, but it's been crazy weather-wise!  This past weekend was our first snow *yay* and it was about 17 degrees!

No no no!  I'm not built to withstand 17 degrees!  So when the weather gets this bad, I only have one solution:

source
Netflix, baby! I love staying in and watching Netflix when it gets to be like...oh -13532 degrees out! Those days are made for snuggling up on the couch, hot cocoa in hand, and sweatpants.Netflix has been my go to since college for snowy day activities. I've been inspired by Luma, the creators of a surround wifi network for you home, to make up my ideal Winter Netflix Viewing Party. So...gather up your girls, make a cup of hot cocoa (recipe below) and chill!  Or if you are in one of those adorable things we call a loving and committed relationship (what are those? lol)  enjoy with your love!

1. So I am craving a Snow Day so I can watch Viola Davis slay as Annalise Keating!
2. Friends the old go to!  Perfect show for any occasion.  I'm pretty sure I've seen each episode about 6,5363 times and it never gets old!
3. Olivia Pope=Girl Crush
4. I binge watched How I Met Your Mother  in 1 month during college!  That might be one of my most exciting accomplishments in life
5. The most underrated ABCFamily Christmas movie!  12 Dates of Christmas has Zach Morris and Jamie Pallamino!  What more could you want in life?  Also, can we get on Freeform to bring back the original Christmas movies?!  Every year I looked forward to them!
6. Just Friends!  You need to see this movie.  It's hilarious and makes me laugh every time! Zach and I actually became friends because one of us quoted this movie to the other and we were like did we just become best friends?  So. So. So. Good!  A perfect holiday film...love, laughs, and Christmas!  What else do you want in life?

Okay, so here's my favorite hot cocoa recipe!

1 C Wegman's Vanilla Almond Milk
5 TBSP (or more to taste) Double Dark Chocolate Hot Cocoa from Williams Sonoma (the best!  It doesn't taste fake like those instant packets)
1 TBPS Wegman's organic creamy peanut butter

Put all ingredients into your Vitamix and press the soup button.  Once it's done pour it into your favorite Christmas mug and chill!  I always add pb (for protein purposes...or because it's my favorite food) after I had it at brunch when I went to  Max Brenner last year.  Amazing!  Life changing!

I will leave you with this cute little gif that is 100% me!  Dude, I want to watch the show.  I need to focus when I watch Breaking Bad!

Enjoy your snowy weather!

Love, love, love,

GOMO

Happy Monday!!

Or in the land of Serindipity...Happy Oxymoron Day!

I'm fresh off the plane from New Orleans and I already want to go back!  I'll post a recap tomorrow.

Today we're focusing on GOMO!  What is GOMO?

In the Netflix and Chill world we live in, GOMO (Go Out More Often) is, sadly, a novel concept!   Eventbrite, an event planning and management software company asked me to list some GOMO ideas!  Eventbrite is awesome because it lets you plan events, send out digital invites, track RSVPs, sell your tickets online and track ticket sales in real time.  This sounds like an awesome way to keep track of all of your holiday parties!

I know that with winter coming, most people prefer to stay inside and hibernate, but I LOVE this time of year!  There are so many exciting things to do outdoors this time of year.  I may be am totally 100% biased because of my December birthday, but I just have to celebrate the season by going to ALL.THE.HOLIDAY.AND.WINTER.THINGS!  I've created a list of holiday/winter things that are must do's in the Philadelphia/Souther NJ area.

1.)  Turkey Trots!

I LOVE this Thanksgiving tradition.  Most are 5ks and can be found in multiple towns around the area.  I usually run the Moorestown Turkey Trot.  I always feel less guilty pigging out once I've completed the pre-dinner race.  A little fresh air also cuts the family togetherness tension :)  Here are a list of local Turkey Trots near me!

Last Year's Moorestown Turkey Trot

2.) Dickens' Village

Macy's in Philadelphia, located in the old Wanamaker Building, puts on a recreation of Charles Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carol, every year.  Visitors walk through an impeccably decorated story walk.  Visitors wind through the 3rd floor or Macy's and view animatronic dolls that depict the major scenes from the book.  We've been going forever and it's something I look forward to every year.  It starts the day of Thanksgiving!  Macy's also does a light show set to Christmas music and features many classic Christmas stories including The Nutcracker, Frosty, and Rudolph.  My family used to go every year, but now my girlfriends and I have turned it into a fun prelude for festive cocktails and dessert at The Melting Pot or Max Brenner's.

3.) Santa Runs/Holiday Runs

After Turkey Trots, these have to be my favorite holiday races.  Racers dress up in holiday garb and run around different neighborhoods.  One cool thing about these races is that they tend to mix up the distance.  Most Turkey Trots are 5ks, where Santa Runs vary from one mile runs to marathons.  You can join a Running of the Santas, or an ugly sweater run, a hot cocoa run, and a reindeer run.  All of these are an awesome way to GOMO and get some exercise in!

4.) Christmas Village

Philadelphia holds an annual Christmas Village complete with a German Christmas Market featuring local vendors.  Every day there is something new for visitors to experience.  Buy some hot cocoa and walk around with a Bavarian pretzel and take in all of the holiday goodies.  Most events are free and family oriented.  Plus, it's Center City locale makes it a great way to start or end your Dickens' Village trip.

5.) Peddler's Village Gingerbread House Contest

On December 3rd and 4th, Peddler's Village hosts a Christmas Weekend complete with shopping, Santa parades, and a Gingerbread House Decorating Contest.  Peddler's Village is cute the other 363 days a year, but this weekend they go above and beyond.  You can purchase cookies and hot cocoa and walk around.  PLUS parking and admission is free!

6.) Living Nativities

As kids there was nothing I loved more than hearing the story of Jesus' birth. We would visit multiple local churches and see their recreation of the story of Jesus' birth.  Each church put their own spin on it, including importing livestock, music, stunts, and special effects.  Such a great way to remember the Reason for the Season.

8.) Craft Shows

Most local high schools and churches feature Christmas Craft Shows.  These are great places to go to pick up gifts for co-workers, neighbors, and hostesses.  Most feature locally made products (think homemade jams/honeys/baking mixes) at reasonable prices.  Plus, I always feel better buying from local artisans.  Most of these also feature a Cookie Walk...not that I ever visit those :)

9.) Ice skating at the RiverRink

Philly has a really awesome outdoor RiverRink where skaters can go to enjoy some exercise, treats, and family time.  I'm a horrible ice skater so you probably would only get a visual of me falling to the ground multiple times.  The rink opens November 25th!

10.) Xfinity Live!

We're really luck in Philly because right next to our sports' arenas is a really cool multi-bar hangout called Xfinity Live.  It features Philly favorites (Geno's and Chickie and Pete's) and other fun bars.  My friends and I like to go and watch basketball, hockey, and football games.  It's a great (and cheap) way to view the games!

11.) Hockey games

My friends and I love Philly sports!  We try to see a Flyers game live every season.  This year, we're going to see Carrie Underwood's husband, Mike Fisher's Nashville Predators take on the Flyers!

12.) Light Displays both local and independent

Many towns feature The Best of Light Displays and list homes that really go over the top with their decorations.  My friends and I like to do a Christmas Dinner Party.  We wear our jammies, bring a course, and eat a nice Christmas meal before we head out on a self-directed lights' tour.  We bring hot cocoa and homemade cookies and turn the Christmas jams up loud!

Last year's lights and dinner tour

If you want a more formal Christmas Lights' Display event you can usually find them at  local farms.  Johnson's Farm does a great one in South Jersey.

13.) Sixers Games

Just like hockey games, we try and visit a Sixers game every year.  Tickets are super cheap and can be found on Groupon!  I'm Cait, her brother, Dylan, and I may all join up and go see a game.

14.) The Nutcracker

My.Favorite. Tradition.  Deb and I usually go see The Nutcracker  every year because I love the ballet!  We usually see the Pennsylvania Ballet's performance, but tickets can be expensive.  Groupon currently has the NJ Ballet's performance for $12!  Local ballet companies also perform this show.

Deb and I before the ballet last year

15.) House Tours

Many older towns feature House Tours.  Moorestown, Haddonfield, and Riverton all host Christmas House Tours.  Visitors can pay a one time fee (usually $25) and get to tour houses decorated for Christmas.  The towns' historical societies usually put on these events.  They're super fun to explore and see all of the old, beautiful mansions' decorations.  We usually turn it into a family affair and bring my aunts, cousin, Cait, and her mom.  We do dinner before and turn it into a fun Girls' Night Out!

16.) Longwood Gardens

If you are from this area, you know Longwood Gardens is a holiday couple's day out fave.  Everyone and I mean everyone takes their significant other to visit the Gardens and take a Christmas picture in front of the giant Christmas tree.  If you're rolling solo this holiday season (like me!) you and your friends can visit it and then grab a good dinner on the way home.

I hope you all enjoyed this list of holiday fun activities!  Remember, use Eventbrite to help you plan your holiday events!  It gives you total control over your event and keeps you in charge of your event with painless event guides and services!

Can't wait to tell y'all about my trip to visit Zach!

XOXO,

E

Christmas In Hershey

Heyyyy!

So we can cross one thing off the Kitley Holiday Bucket List:  Christmas in Hershey!  We've always gone to Hershey in the summer (Maybe because of my sweet tooth?  Or maybe because of years of dance expos?  Maybe both?) and loved it!  Chocolate?  Good!  Rides?  Good!  Fam Hang Time?  Good!  So this year we decided to go up to Hershey Park in the winter for Christmas In Hershey and to see the Sweet Lights.  We had a great time!  We lucked out on the weather (hello 60 degrees in December!) and we lucked out because one of my oldest friends happened to be there!  It was really fun!  We decided we don't have to do it again though.  It is mostly geared for little kids and since we're 23 and 20, we couldn't ride the little kid rides (South Pole Elves prevented us.  Apparently, if one approaches a little kid's ride without a little kid people get alarmed.  What if I myself am just a 6 year old trapped in a 23 year old's body?  The lights were beautiful and the drive through was much more intricate than we were thinking it would.  There were sooooooo many different themed light displays!  Including, 12 Days of Christmas, traditional holiday lights, storybooks, fairytales, and an assortment of other cute scenes!  Then they had local children design and compete for a spot on the trail.  They were precious.

Then, we went to Applebees (score) for dinner and I had my second boneless wings basket of the week (score) and life was good.  Sunday we went to the outlets and did some shopping.  Then we traveled back to NJ and finished up shopping at the mall.

Pretty sweet weekend if you ask me!

The Definitive Best and Worst Christmas Jams...As Told By Me

Happy Winter Break!!!

If you're anything like me you are basking in the radiant light of your laptop binge watching important Netflix documentaries about the riveting lives of a competitive Ohio high school show choir's members...that's intellitalk for Glee.  You are also knee deep in peanut butter and chocolate fudge and done all of your Christmas shopping and are eagerly awaiting the beautous holidays that are right around the corner!  (You also may or may not have exhausted your yoga pant alottment and are eagerly trying to find more yoga pants, because let's face it, after the Semester From Hell, you don't need pants with zippers and all of their negativity!  Embrace elastic waist pants!)

So what else have I been up to on my 48 hours of freedom?  Oh you know the usual, scheduling Girls' Breakfast, Lunches, Movies, Nites, shopping (for others I promise!), working, and enjoying the holiday merriment that is when you live in Christmas House!!  Anyway, I was trolling Facebook yesterday and I saw one of my God cousins posted an interesting question:  "What Christmas Song Could You Live Without?"  I immediately answered, "The Little Drummer Boy and Do You Hear What I Hear?  The Little Drummer Boy is just impractical.  No one would let a drummer that close to a newborn!  He would burst the baby's tympanic membrane."  This got me thinking...what are the best and the worst?!  We all have our favorites, our "Oh no not this one!  Quick pop over to CD mode!  CD mode now MADDEN (my car's name!)"

I can't take any more renditions of Do You Hear What I Hear?!  Yes I do hear you and I get it!  Guess who else gets it?  The little lamb, the shepherd boy, and the rest of the world.  We get it.  It's Christmas Doctrine that if you put out a Christmas CD you  must include this little ditty, but I get it.  I hear you, I see you, I feel you, I smell you, I speak you.  I get it.  No mas!

But if forced, I would still choose The Little Drummer Boy as the worst.  I just don't get it!  He's going to deafen poor baby Jesus!  I have a lot of prayers.  I pretty much spend most of my waking hours asking Jesus to help me in my life, pray for my friends and family, help me pass a test, live out Dream Life, let Wegman's have the good cookies, etc!  I need Jesus to have both ears open to hear my pleas!  Also, I just don't like the melody, or the words, or just any of it.  Not a fan.

I also don't like Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas.  This song makes me sad.  It makes me want to cry.  It makes me want to return all of my gifts and every gift I ever bought anyone because I am that sad.  I just feel bad about having Christmas and I just want to cry.  That is the most depressing song ever.

Mele Kalikimaka-I don't like this song because Christmas is snowy and white.  Bing Crosby taught me that.  Even though I know Mr. Crosby sings a rendition of this song, too, it just confuses me!  Mr. Crosby why are you sending me mixed messages?!  I'm happy to live in an area of the world where I may get lucky enough to have a White Christmas, but then I'm also sad because now I think I should have a Bright Hawaiian Christmas Day.  And on the years that I don't have either?  Well then what am I supposed to do?

John Lennon's War Is Over.  I know I'm going to be chastised for publically saying this but I loathe The Beatles.  I don't think they are that great and I don't think they are that ground breaking.  Maybe this attitude comes from being tortured forced to ride the middle school bus while our bus driver blared Breakfast With The Beatles for 3 years.  Every.  Single.  Day.  No delightful boppy 80's soft rock for the students trapped on Bus F.  Nope, just the best and worst of The Beatles.  And during Christmas this bad boy was played at least twice during every excruciating moment of that 45 minute bus ride.  This song again is depressing and makes me sad.  I don't need sadness at Christmas.  It makes me sad because some people are separated from their loved ones on Christmas because of war.  It makes me feel like a bad person that I am lucky enough to not be separated from my loved ones on Christmas.  It makes me feel bad that John Lennon was murdered.  It makes me sad that I have to relive my middle school bus rides.  It makes me sad about the Vietnam War.  It makes me sad about wars.  It just makes me sad.

The Beach Boys Little Saint Nick-SO freaking annoying!  Brian and the gang should stick to cheery pop songs about California Girls and Surfin' Safari's.  This song is just grating and should be used in Guantanamo.  I often times find myself willing to give up any secrets I have just for a few minutes of non-Beach Boy Christmas!
And for the Winners:

Best Christmas Jam:

Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!  MC is the Christmas Angel of Christmas singers.  Her initials after all are Merry Christmas!!  As soon as every girl hears that rocking bell solo (yes I just said rocking bell solo) we stop what we're doing and we gaze longingly into the glowing light that is MC's angelic cherubim voice and we lower our voices into an octave that mimics not even close to MiMi's and we begin, "Iiiiii-hhhiiii-iiii, don't wahhhn a lot forrr Christmas, theeeyyyeeehhhheerrre izzzz juhust one thing Iiihi need," and we're gone.  Just gone.  It's like a scene from HSM or Glee, everyone everywhere knows the words and we're all rocking out in the middle of Nordstrom without a care in the world.  When I was in dance class, the "big girls" got to do this little number every year for the Tree Lighting and you knew you made it when you were asked to partake in the sashays and time steps, and flap ball changes, and buffalos, and the holy grail of all things tap--A SPOT IN THE COVETED WHEEL AND KICK LINE!  Honestly, this is 90% of the reason why I tap danced growing up.  The opportunity to perform in this illustrious number.  (The other 10% was the costumes...can you say fringe+sequins+mod?)  This song was even great when Michael Buble covered it!  He did a whole sexy slow jam thing and I can't get enough!  When he and MiMi performed this on his special I almost died a 1000 happy deaths because it was like Joy to the World!

Best Nostalgic Christmas CD:

Burl Ives Have A Holly Jolly Christmas- The man can do no wrong.  The whole album is a delicious ode to everyone's favorite red nosed reindeer.  It just sounds like what sugar cookies taste like.

Nouveau Noel (Male)

Michael Buble's Cold December Night- I like to call these Nouveau Noel.  I love self created Christmas Jams by my fave singers.  This song also happens to be an ABCFamily Christmas Movie Gem-12 Dates of Christmas thus doubling its awesomeness.  It's just romantic and delightful!

Nouveau Noel (Female)

Kelly Clarkson's Winter's Dream-I think we're all happy Kel-Kel is married (to Reba's son no less!  Best. Mother. In. Law. EVER!) and her CD is pure sugary heaven!  This one is just what every girl wants!  A snow globe scene?  Come on!  I want that!  You can feel her happiness!  Her whole CD is fantasmic and should be listened to while eating copious amounts of sugar cookies and fudge.

International:

Jose Feliciano's Feliz Navidad--I have no idea what he is saying but it is festive and I like it!  My version of the lyrics goes, "Feliz Navidad (I got that part DOWN), Feliz Navidad, Feliz Navidad prospero ano leeese aliseee bob.  I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas!  I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas!  I wanna wish you a Merry CHristmas from the bottom of my heeeheart!"  I try but I can't learn the real words.

Classic:

This one is a tie between Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song.  This is just pure, unfiltered Christmas.  You are instantly transported to a ski chalet in the middle of Colorado, sipping mulled cider or hot cocoa, while sitting by a fire nestled with your ridiculously smoking hot honey who is wearing (coincidentally) a matching red snow suit with white fur trim.  You happen to be wearing white furry ear muffs (that's really more of a judgement call but this is my Christmas fantasy and I can have them if I want) and your hair is reminiscent of Kate Middleton's wedding hair, and you're eating perfectly shaped Pinterest worthy cookies.  And your chalet (Christmas Palace) smells like cinnamon and spices.

Children's:

Dominic The Donkey-NO ONE HATE ON DOMINIC!  HE IS THE ITALIAN CHRISTMAS DONKEY!  LOVE HIM!  IF NO LOVE--NO MEATBALLS!  HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES JERSEY?

I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas-Christmas is a hard word to rhyme people--give credit where credit is due!  I also like how the child is logical enough to concoct a plan to bring the hippo in the house, yet sophisticated enough to render his parents' hippo misgivings illogical and...shallow?  Can I say shallow?  I mean the hippo won't eat him up because teacher says (if for nothing else this is a shameless plug about how awesome teachers are because this teacher single handedly saved this kid's Christmas!) hippo's a vegetarian! You can't argue with that.

The Hat I Got For Christmas Is Too Big-No one plays this.  I'm not taking the hint that it means the song sucks I'm taking it as an ode to my sophisticated and vast knowledge of little known Christmas jams.  I'm gonna hipster this one up and say, "You've probably never heard of it..." Anyway, it's a jaunty tale about a boy who's sombrero is too big.

Covers:

Jessica Simpson's What Christmas Means To Me.  Pure Joy!  A great cover and an under appreciated cover.  Miss Simpson delivers the pipes with a beautiful Christmas melody bow.

T-Swizzle's Last Christmas-Perfection Confection!  It actually sounds like a song Tay Tay would sing-Guy dumps her, year passes, she's still not over him, she wants him back, she's dating someone new but still loves last year's man.  It just all sounds so right to me?  Like this song was made for Miss Swift!

Best Song B101 Never Plays:

Jim Brickman's The Gift.  iTunes this.  NOW!  It's the perfect holiday love song!

Only Bing Can Sing:

White Christmas--No one try.  Just stop.  Save yourself the embarrassment.  Done.

Best Religious:

Celine Dion Oh Holy Night-Done!  Miss Dion puts all car jammers to shame by hitting notes no one knew existed!  She's flawless on this song!  You know what I'm talking about that last NOELLLLL OH NIGHT DEEEEEEVIIIIIIIINE!  Only Miss Dion can hit that sucker.

Best Country:

Lady A's whole CD but if pressed I'd pick Silent Night.  It reminds me of Christmas Eve mass and just the true holy beauty that surrounds Jesus's Birthday.

Best Duet:

Baby It's Cold Outside-Who doesn't love a Christmas Jam that involves someone trying to coerce you into sleeping with them?  Solid Christmas Jam Gold!  Also, her maiden aunt sounds like ZERO fun (and bitter...)!  Also my fave is Dean Martin/Martina McBride but all are great!

Best Song to Never Listen To When You're Single:

Three Way Tie!

T-Swift's-Christmases When You Were Mine.  I'm crying over my memories of Christmases when you were mine.  Did you (sob sob) get your mom another sweater?  Taylor just wants to know okay?  She misses you!  Get back together!!!

Bon Jovi-Bells Will Be Ringing-My number one question is why did you lose your friends?  Bon Jovi you're supposed to keep your friends and make time for Richie Sambora!  If you lose your friends how will you get through a Christmas break up?  You won't!!

Elvis-Blue Christmas-Just put away any hope of a happy single holiday when you hear this song.  Elvis why did you do this to me?  This song makes you just wanna give up!  It does however let everyone and their mother do a killer Elvis impression therefore negating all negativity in the song.  Happy Uncle Jesse Christmas Everyone!

Song To Listen To If You're Single:

The Waitresses Christmas Wrapping-This song is delightful!  It offers hope, love, faith, and a lotta serendipity!  All wins in my book!  I love how the two star-crossed lovahs (bonus points if you read lovah like Rachel Dratch and Will Ferrell did in the SNL LOVAHS sketch) were fated to get together but it didn't work out until Christmas time?!  Totally realistic and warms my little heart!

Best Dolly Parton Christmas Jam:

Dolly and Kenny put out a little holiday album that everyone should buy but these are my two faves:

I'll Be Home With Bells On:  Cheery.  Upbeat.  Festive.  Just like Miss Parton herself!

Hard Candy Christmas-Depressing yet proposes multiple ways to get over a holiday break up!

Christmas Party Starter:

Brenda Lee Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree-Just like you can't have a wedding without Cool and The Gang's Celebration, you can't have a holiday party with out it. It's a staple, like ugly sweaters, too much crab dip, and egg nog.  You just need it.

To Put You In the Christmas Mood:

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year-When I hear this I immediately want to shop!  I see in red an green and I am visualizing myself wrapping presents (and using my pink wrapping paper cutter) with fury!

Song I Like To Mime To:

Ok, this one needs some explaining!  About 15 years ago my mom brought Dylan and me to a local grand scale Living Nativity.  We're talking flying angels, a live cello and harpist, a full choir of angels singing Gloria, live animals, and a mime.  Yes a mime.  This attraction boasts so many visitors that one must literally travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem.  There is entertainment throughout the cattle lines and it is usually beautiful holiday choirs (yes I said choirs, this place had like five they were so hard core.  And yes they were each differently decked out in different choir garb) but this year...in the last room...right before you were thrust into the beautiful walk down into the story of Jesus' birth was a teen mime.  Yup, with all black on miming Mary Did You Know?  This song is beautiful!  The message is precious and glorious and religious and really focuses in on the true meaning of Christmas.  Well, she focuses a little too much on the actual birth of our Lord (yup a full scale birth scene was mimed in front of my 8 and Dylan's 5 year old eyes) followed by a completely mimed literal interpretation of the song. She even "led the nation" with a full on soldier's march.  Dylan and I couldn't help ourselves and busted out laughing.  We tried to contain ourselves but after 2 hours (yes 120 minutes) of waiting and being on our "best behavior or no cookies at the end" we erupted into laughter.  To our amazement Deb was laughing right along, too!  I think it was the vivid imagination and creative miming that really brought new meaning and life to this Living Nativity.  Now every time this song comes on Deb, Dylan, and I text each other and remarkably the mime left such an impact on our little hearts that we still can perform the routine exactly how she did.  Skillz!!

Song That Reminds You Of Your Elementary School's Christmas Sing Along:

Here Comes Santa Claus, Santa Claus is Coming To Town that leads into Up On The Rooftop-Before everyone got all offended about celebrating Christmas at public school I got to sing this little medley at my elementary school's Christmas Sing Along!   As if we needed another reason why the 90s rocked?!  This song was the Christmas medley to end all Christmas medleys!  You whipped out your Santa hats and jammed!  You even had cutesy little dance moves that infuriated my 3 year dance experienced self.  Eye rolls were given at the mimed hand knocking.  I was a feisty one at five...hard to imagine I know.

PC Song You Can Sing In Schools Now:

Frosty!  Thank God for that snowman.  Without him no one would be able to sing anything holiday.

Hanukkah Song:

Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song!  "OJ Simpson...not a Jew,"  Best line ever!

Classical Song:

David Foster's Carol of the Bells

All of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker-melts my little ballerina's heart

So there you have it!  I think Christmas Jams are kinda like pizza in the sense where any pizza is better than no pizza and all pizza is pretty good.  (Except the aforementioned Christmas yuckies)  So enjoy your Christmas happiness and holiday break!  I know I've left out a ton of jams but, alas, I have turned my brain off during break.  Feel free to add your jam or yucky to the list!

xoxo,

Erin

How I Plan To Answer The Age Old Holiday Question...

Ho Ho Ho!

Greetings from the last day of school for this girl!  Merry Christmas Break everyone!  So, my 23rd birthday was a fail whale.  Literally a fail whale.  I will get to that later though.  So as you know the holidays are one week (EEEEK!!!) away!  I'm finished all my shopping and now that classes are done I can fully dive into the Christmas Season and Merriment!  Well, one important aspect of the Christmas season is holiday parties!  I love holiday parties!  Who doesn't?  Crab dip? Good!  Chocolate?  Good!  Holiday flavored beverages?  Goooooooood!  Well apparently there is one holiday party essential that everyone seems to fester on this time of year.  What is it?  World hunger?  No.  Children without Christmas presents?  Nada.  Homelessness?  Uh-uh.  It's singleness.  Yup, singleness.  I personally hate being asked, "Oh, are you single?  Doesn't that suck during the holidays?"  Welp, yes and no.  The holidays can be hard when your newsfeed is flooded with happy couples holding hands and posing at Longwood Gardens.  But they can also be awesome!  I don't have to pick and choose where I will be spending the holidays (can you say jammies all day on Christmas?!), I don't have to spend money on a gift for a boyfriend (Hello new bracelet and top for me!), and I don't have to worry about doing all the "holiday stuff" with a boyfriend.  I do all kindsa fun holiday stuff with my girlfriends, eat lotsa cookies, and watch tons of Christmas movies.  We drive around eating said cookies and look at neighboring towns' light displays.  I don't think being in a relationship defines you and I refuse to live my life with that idea.  Some people get all insulted about this and cause a huge stink.  I mean it is very insulting to assume that I am lonely (or if I am...thanks for the reminder that I'm lonely) but I think most of these people mean well (benefit of the doubt right?)...maybe...probably...kinda?

Anyway, I think we can all say that sometimes we get sad at Christmas time if we're single.  Does it happen?  Yup!  Do I hate myself for saying that?  Absolutely.  However, usually after watching Serendipity or Four Christmases, or Elf and eating my body weight in cookies I will feel all better and be over it.

Back to the idea of singleness and everyone's apparent fascination with asking people about their singleness.  I decided to create a list of ways to address this question.  Some of these are....um...creative? I used to answer with a cute little response of "I'm just waiting for Channing Tatum," or "Chris Evans said he would have loved to be here but something came up," or "Well, Grad School is my new boyfriend.  We've been together for about a year and I think it's getting serious."  These are all just sweet ways to tell people, "Please stop talking to me about this.  Can I get back to my punch now?"  But I figure, 2013, the year of change so here are all the new 2013 ways to address this question.  Also, I'm hoping if I do one of these things I will NEVER have to answer this question again...wishful thinking?  Enjoy!

  • Are you afraid of getting divorced?  (This is wildly inappropriate but so is their question)
  • Have a mental breakdown.  Right there in front of them.
  • Ugly Cry.  Kim Kardashian Ugly Cry!
  • Will the rest of this test be multiple choice or can I expect an essay?
  • I'm not alone I have Schmeigle--point to air space next to you.  Schmeigle is your invisible friend.
  • Are you worried about getting dumped for someone hotter?
  • Marriage is a patriarchal social construct that represses women.  This sentence alone will cause you to relish in your introverted self.
  • Run away.
  • Repeat the question.
  • Spout nonsense words.  wtegu sgoutuetg smaooeg.  Think Michael Scott at the business dinner with Tim Meadows and Jan.
  • Say o because I can zigga zigga ah (Spice Girls what what!  Does anyone know what that actually means) anytime I want with anyone I want.
  • Jenna Marbles' face them
  • Spontaneous Raptor (I highly recommend using this whenever in a socially awkward situation.  In my experience it has 100% effectiveness rating)
  • Point to the oldest person you can find and say, "I didn't come alone, I came with him/her."
  • I'm really more of a lone wolf.  Awooooooo (Bonus points if you scratch behind your ear)
  • Start talking about why your last relationships failed.  Also include everyone you've ever had a crush on.  Like that 3 year old boy who hit you in preschool--include him!!  The more details, the longer, the more in depth the better!
  • Start laughing.  Loudly.  Maniacally.  Add snorting sound effects if it makes you happy.
  • Ask them why they want to know.
  • Sing.  Anything your little heart wants to.
  • Say that Beyonce wrote a biographical tome about your life (aka Single Ladies) and you can't let her down.  Then go into the dance!  Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, ohoh!
  • Grab them and squeeze them and scream "Why doesn't anybody love me?!?!"  10000 Bonus Points if you can muster fake tears!
  • Pretend to be really offended!  Hell be really offended and scoff off loudly!
  • Flick them between the eyes.  Not hard, just like you'd flick a disobedient dog.
  • Squint your eyes, lean in real close to them (nose to nose if you can) and whisper, "We can't discuss this here.  They (point and look up to the ceiling) are listening."  Then lean back and nod.  Periodically through out the night, make eye contact with this person and point to random corners and solemnly nod.
  • Scream, "NO I WON'T KISS YOU!?  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!" and smooth your dress and walk away.
  • Tell them you're looking into rewiring a lamp. Is it relevant?  No. Will it confuse them?  Yes.  The look on their face?  Priceless!!
  • Tell them you no longer believe in marriage because Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries got divorced and therefore your faith in love and marriage has forever been shattered.
  • Tell them there are bigger problems in the world like adults wearing Crocs and Twinkie Banning to worry about.  These are real issues that affect everyone.

In conclusion, being single is not a party question.  No where will you find it in any Party Jenga, Party Apples to Apples, or Party Scattegories.  It is party Taboo.  But, we all know that we have to steel our single selves against this inevitable party question and keep our composure.  I hope these help you navigate your party nonsense and enjoy your night.

Merry Christmas,

Erin

NoSODAvember

Heeeeeey!!

So Happy November!!  Are we all excited?!  It is the 11th month and that means what?  *This is my example of using my teacher voice in everyday life.  A fun little discourse experiment, eh?*  Well the answer boys and girls is...The Christmas Season Is Upon Us!!!  Yep, yep, this girl is ready for Christmas and all the seasonal festivities!!  To all of you who are saying, "But we just had Halloween,"  I say yes but (as my dear friend Corinne wrote on my FB wall today) "November is just a pregame for Christmas".  Do you see why I love my cohort?  They get me.  We're all a little Christmas obsessed!  I completed the local radio station's Christmas Survey (like I do every year) and I put that I want Christmas music to start November 1.  However, when I turned on my radio this morning, what should my wondering ear appear, but Rihanna not Christmas JAMS!!  So.  Sad.

I saw this lil gem on Pinterest and thought it captures
my dream world perfectly!

Also, I have been inspired by those No_____vembers.  You know the NoSAHVEmber, NoSTRESSvember, etc and have decided to start my very own.  I'm doing a NoSODAvember.  I'm a sweet tooth to the nth degree and I just can't stop drinking my sweet stuff.  All the sugar and carbonation really take a toll on my body, energy level, and mood.  So for 30 days I'm going to detox and be soda free.  I have already made a behavior chart for myself.  (Raise your hand if you're a SPED)  I am going to give myself a star for every day I go soda free.  My reward will be a pre-Thanksgiving mani.  Total relaxation after a very stressful (and caffeine free) November.

November is going to be a busy month!  On the docket I already have multiple friends' birthdays, concerts, my COMPREHENSIVE EXAM (Oh you know the all inclusive exam that I must pass in order to graduate...no pressure or anything.)  The South Pole elves must have decided to test us during the holiday season :(  My parents anniversary--Happy 28th!! and their anniversary dinner! Thanksgiving!  Black Friday!  Babysitting!  Plus pretty much every project for school ever created!  But alas, in 30 days it will be the best month ever!  I think I can deal with that!

My professors deciding Christmas time was the
appropriate time to give our Comps Exam...

So with the holiday season quickly approaching, I figured I would jump into the season with a 30 Days of Thankfulness posting series because I think this time of year it is very easy to take things for granted.  I know I do.  I'm always creating, editing, revising it to make it perfect.  And guess what?  I usually get everything on my list.  I also take for granted that I will get everything on my list.  *I'm not a totally heartless individual, I do buy a lot of presents for my local toy drive*  I think right now is a pretty good time to be thankful that I have so many blessings.  I think this time of year becomes the time of year when I'm stressing over will I find the perfect gift for _____________?  Do I have to buy them a gift?  What if they don't get me anything but I show up with a present, will that be awkward?  I think I often times lose sight of the fact that this time of year is supposed to be about being thankful for what we do have.  So today I am going to start the first of these posts.

Thankfulness Day One:

I am thankful for God and my faith.  I don't usually write about this topic because I believe to each their own, but I am very thankful for God and prayers and faith.  I say my prayers every night and thank God every night for all the wonderful things He has given me.  I do sometimes oftentimes get impatient and ask if He could answer my prayer right now that'dbegreat but I know that He is going to let it all work out in the end.

Happy November and wish me luck with my NoSODAvember!  I'm already sleepy and it's only 12:30 pm...this no caffeine thing may actually kill me.  Keep your thankful thoughts coming!

Sunday Funday

Heyyyyy!!

Happy Sunday!  Raise your hand if you don't want it to be Monday tomorrow!  *This girl is raising her hand*  I'm actually on Fall Break now from TCNJ.  However, Fall Break in grad school means you still have to edit a paper, read three articles and six chapters, and collect your thoughts for your jigsaw.  Plus, it means I still have to go to work.  I do love working though so that doesn't really count.  Anyway, enough complaining, my life's pretty fab.

Today our family continued the long lasting Kitley Sunday Tradition of attending 10 am Mass, brunch, shopping, and concluding our day with some shopping.  Last week we discovered The Robin's Nest in Mt. Holly and we are hooked!  Last Sunday I had oatmeal raisin pancakes with strawberries and a mimosa.  The place is adorable!!  Think Victorian mixed with country.  Today Deb and I had Nutella Waffles.  O.M.G. Foodgasm!  I loved every minute of them.  They tasted like what I envision happiness to taste like.  Fantabulous, y'all!!
Deb & Me & Mimosas!
Nutella Waffles...OMG
Daddy In The Big Chair.
We may have done a little 3 Little Bears here...

Next, we went to Target for a little Halloween candy shopping and came across THESE GEMS!

Geishas Anyone?

I talked myself out of buying all of these Christmas Albums...
Self Control is Only Buying Michael Buble's Christmas Album
I have a confession to make.  For the past two days I have been listening to Christmas Jams and watching ABCFamily Christmas Movies on Netflix.  I also may or may not have added the ABCFamily 25 Days of Christmas lineup to my Lilly Pulitzer Agenda...

Then I saw the 2013 version of Skipper.  Skipper was blonde in my day kiddos.  Chelsea's name was also Kelly....hmmmmmm Mattel.....Is the 2013 Skipper gothic?  Idunno but in my day Whitney had brown hair...Skipper was blonde...P.S. Midge was also randomly at Target.  Midge, whereyabeen the past 40 years?

After Target Funday I had to return to reality because App Reviews won't write themselves honey.  I also may or may not have rewarded myself with ABCFamily's Holiday in Handcuffs.  :)  Pretty fab day!

Alrighty, I'm getting ready for bed so I can watch Hocus Pocus and The World Series.  Go Cards!  Have a Happy Last Day of The Weekend!!

HO HO HO!  Christmas came early this past weekend for me and my two best friends!  We made the annual trek to Macy*s to see the light show and the Dickens' Village.  This show is tradition for so many people in the Philadelphia area.  I grew up going to this endearing holiday tradition and I will continue to go every year until I'm a billion.  The place is kitsch to the enth degree.  AND I LOVE EVERY MINUTE OF IT!
So my friends and I drove over to Philly jamming all the way to B101.  After belting multiple Christmas jams, we finally arrived.  We walked into Macy*s which is the old Wanamaker Building in Philadelphia.  The Wanamaker Building was home to Philadelphia's first department store!  (History for the shopping inclined).  Macy*s is home to the Wanamaker Organ. This beautiful and historic building now houses one of the best Christmas Spectaculars in the area.  Every hour on the hour there is a musical light show that tells multiple Christmas tales including The Nutcracker.  The show is spectacular and so much fun to watch.  We missed that hour's show by 10 minutes so we lined up for Dickens' Christmas Village instead.
Dickens' Christmas Village is a miniature replica of animatronic figures acting out Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol.  It is adorable!!  The only thing that is not adorable is the line.  The line is about 30 minutes in length.  It does move pretty quickly and you get to walk through historic rooms in the Wanamaker Building.  These rooms are etched with gorgeous sculptures and designs.  You also get to watch Yes, Virginia, in the second of 3 holding areas.  On a side note, I always end up watching the movie from the same scene.  EVERY.  SINGLE.  YEAR.  How does this happen?  I don't know.  I think it falls under the same magical shtick that you never get to hear Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You from the beginning.  I think this is so as to keep any/all passengers I have in my car from trying to escape Madden* by any means humanly possible.  Anyway, when we finally entered the animatronic heaven, we were greeted by animatronic, slightly  extremely scary Charles Dickens, and he welcomed us to the show.  As you walk through the animatronic figures you can read a synopsis of each coordinating scene at each stop.  When Scrooge is greeted by the Ghost of Christmas Present, the little girl in front of us asked her dad who that man was.  She asked, "Is That Santa?  He's not old.  He doesn't have white hair.  But he is wearing a red suit!"  Her dad looked at her and said, "Yes!  That's Santa when he was 35."  This answer pacified the little girl and melted our hearts.  I want my husband to be the cute and to think that quickly on his feet!  ADORABLE!
So we finished walking through the Village and then watched the light show from the optimal viewing location:  2nd floor, dead center.  The show was great.  Even the intense PDA couple couldn't ruin this for us.  #PDAisgross.
After we left Macy*s, we were going to go to Reading Terminal Market for the BEST pretzels/cannolis in Philly, but it was closed.  But, what to our wandering eyes should appear but Mids and Cadets fresh out of the Army v Navy game at the Linc!  Whhhaaaat a great day!  If anyone is wondering which side I'm on I will state for the record I support Navy.  I have only good things to say about Navy and the Mids.  Plus, the uniforms are way better.  You would be surprised though, three different girls, three very different opinions about which uniform is better.  Anyway, Navy won for the 11th straight year in a row.  Bravo Zulu Navy!
Next, we went to Geno's.  Parking at Geno's is the only draw back to the experience.  We ended up parking on what can only be described as a Christmas Street.  Lights hanging across the street, beautiful decorations in every window, greenery and garland hanging from the doorways and windows.  Exquisite.  It put us in the Christmas mood.  Geno's is the greatest place in the city.  You can not get a better steak anywhere in the world.  Plus the people watching is second to none.  Plus there were tooooons of hot Mids there.  All the more reason to enjoy our dinner!  We congratulated several Mids on the win and ate our steaks and fries (for me).  It was the perfect ending to a perfect day!
This was the best way to put all of us in a Christmasy mood.  It was also the perfect distraction from studying for finals and writing term papers.

So spread a little Christmas cheer and visit Charles Dickens' Christmas Village because it will instantly brighten your day!

Christmas Is In...ONE MONTH AND 22 DAYS!!

***Notice the red and green typing...Christmas is soon people!!  I have foregone my usual pink...you know I mean business***  PS sorry this was posted twice...I don't know why

So today at 1pm my day got infinitely better!  Why do you ask??  Because that was the time that I walked into Target and bought Christmas JAMS!!  Being a December baby I feel an extra special affinity towards Christmas.  In my house, December is literally the busiest and most expensive month...EVER.  Both my brother and I are December Babies (he's the 9th and I'm the 14th).  Then comes Christmas Adam (a term I copped from my friend...i.e. the day before Christmas Eve...who came before Eve?  Adam #ChristianityHumor) a day filled with shopping or just people watching at the mall with a Starbucks Caramel Apple Cider in hand, then, Christmas Eve (a day filled with eating hors d'oeuvres/primping for church/having my hair not work with me even though I've had wayyyyyy longer than usual to perfect it/arriving at mass an hour and 45 minutes prior to ensure we get the "best seats"/going to Red Lobster for dinner (I know it may seem a little strange but we will get to that in a later post titled Kitley Family Holiday Traditions)/my Aunt's house for Christmas Dinner part II/wrapping presents/watching 24 straight hours of A Christmas Story/then reading Twas The Night Before Christmas/getting new Christmas jammies.  Then, finally Jesus' Birthday!!  Then December 26th shopstravaganza!  And then New Year's Eve and finally New Year's Day.  As you can see Christmas and December are a big  FREAKING GINORMOUS deal in my house!

Back to today, Target is my all time favorite store.  Literally who doesn't love Target?  You can buy dog food, lawn furniture, and moderately priced nail polish all in one place...Heaven?  I think so!!  Well today Target reached a new level of epicness.  As I strode through the Jedi-like sliding doors, I was debating what I wanted to buy.  It's payday and payday means Target Day!  Do I need a reason to go to Mecca?  No, if it is a day that ends in y, I will most likely be at Target.  Anyway, I decide to buy myself some new music.  Maybe a little Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Jana Kramer, who knows whichever I feel like.  Well, I didn't even make it to the country section because what to my wandering eye should appear but the glittering Christmas display that can only be described as having been created and primped by angels or Jovie...THE CHRISTMAS MUSIC DISPLAY!!  Be still my beating heart!

Well, I just went nuts.  EVERYTHING was on sale!  Nothing was more than $8.99!  God knows I love a sale, let alone a Christmas music sale!  Amy, Nat, Luther, NSYNC, Kidz Bop, all the greats were sitting there staring back at me saying BUY ME BUY ME BUY ME!  Well, I did.  I bought three CDs...Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers...Brad Paisley...Rudolph...wait for it...the original with Burl Ives!  I had to verbally command my self...out loud mind you..."Walk away from the Christmas display Erin...walk away."  So I went to the register with my glee in full force (literally a huge dork smile on my face) and paid for them.  $18.97...I think yes!  Before the saleslady could hand me my bag I grabbed it and said "THANKYOUVERYMUCHHAVEANICEDAY!" and pranced out the store!  On a scale from 1-Kristen Bell and a sloth, I was right with her!  So as I bounce to my car, barely withholding my glee, I rip open the Dolly/Kenny jam and...well, let's just say it was a Hard Candy Christmas in my car allllllll the way home.

While jamming out and smiling like Ralphie when he opens the Red Rider BB gun, I decided I wasn't going to make it to the gym today, no sir...I was going to weigh train while watching Elf   *First we’ll make snow angels for two hours, then we’ll go ice skating, then we’ll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookie-dough as fast as we can, and then we’ll snuggle*  Much better decision I think!

Well, the moral of the story is that Christmas is soon and there is room for everybody on the nice list!  So remember, the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!  So I will continue to jam (exclusively to Christmas Jams) and I expect everyone to be as happy as me!  So if you see me standing outside a department store dressed as an elf handing out candy canes...you know who to call...yes that's right Macy's Security!

Christmas Is Coming...In One Month and 22 Days!

You will notice that today's post is written in red and green because....Christmas is in ONE MONTH AND 22 DAYS!!

So my obsession with Christmas has only infinitely progressed since 1 pm today!  Why do you ask?  Because I bought Christmas JAMS!!  Being a December Baby I always had an extra-special relationship with Christmas.  December is a big month in my house because both my brother and I are December babies!  (Dylan's the 9th and I'm the 14th)  Then, just when you get a chance to breathe it is suddenly Christmas Adam (a term I copped from my friend ie Christmas Adam is the day before Christmas Eve #ChristianityHumor, then Christmas Eve (spending the day primping and eating hors d'oeuvres, having your hair still not come out right even though you've spent wayyyyy longer than usual on it/Church (at 3:15 for the 5 pm mass as to not get a bad seat/then Red Lobster for dinner (see future posts for Kitley family traditions)/Then more eating at my Aunt's house/wrapping gifts/watching 24 hours straight of A Christmas Story) then finally, it's Jesus' Birthday!!  Followed by December 26th sales, and New Year's Eve and New Year's Day!!  Whaaaaat a great month!

Anyway, today I went to Target.  Why did I end up at Target?  Oh I don't know, because it's a day that ends in y?  Well anyway,  I LOVE Target!  And today I was like hmmm, I'm in the mood for some new music so I wander over to the music section and BAM just like the opening scene in A Christmas Story I am awestruck by the glittering, sparkling, awe-inducing display of Christmas Jams on sale!!  Literally, NSYNC, Luther, Amy, Rudolph, and Kidz Bop, you name it they had it...and they were each marked below $8!!  SCCCCOOOREE!!  There is nothing I love more than clearanced priced things at Target.  Some of my best purchases were made on Target Clearance Section!  So after much debating...and literally verbalizing out loud "No Erin, put down the cd's" I managed to walk away with three new Christmas Jam CDs!  I settled on Dolly and Kenny (because I love her so much), Brad Paisley (because I love him so much), and Rudolph... wait for it...The Burl Ives edition!  I hit the jackpot!  And my total at the register was $18.75!! #Winning!!  So as the saleslady attempted to hand me my bag of awesome, I beat her to it!  I literally grabbed the bag and was like "THANKYOUSOOOOMUCHHAVEAGREATDAY!"  ALL one word because I was that pumped!  So soon as I got to my car, barely containing my excitement, (I didn't open them in the store because people would no doubt think I was stealing because of my shaking hands) I ripped open the Dolly and Kenny Christmas CD and ejected Taylor Swift's RED (sorry Tay but you get it...your a fellow December baby) and jammed the whole drive home!  My mood was literally elevated from its usual jaunty 7 caliber self to 45!  I was like Kristen Bell and a sloth!  I was that excited!  I had big plans to go to the gym tonight for some cardio but now, I think I'm much more in the mood for watching Elf and doing weights...a fair trade I think!  *And then we're gonna make snow angels*  #becauseIhadtoandit'smyblogsoIcan

Christmas can't come soon enough!  On Tuesday I will start buying Christmas presents and I will be one big mess from then on out!  If you find me dressed as an elf passing out candy canes...you know who to call
